Welcome back to Week 2 of the One Room Challenge, where I am giving our master bedroom an overhaul in five short weeks. In case you missed my post last week, you can catch up here!
Current State of the Master Bedroom
Here is the progress this week on the master bedroom, drumroll, please, an empty room that is a mess! Not a lot of visual development this week, but a lot of decisions have been made!
We have managed to clear out the room, move the smoke detector down to allow for crown molding, and knock down some of the popcorn texture on the ceiling. I am not going to full out scrape it; I am worried about damaging the tray ceiling. It is not worth the effort to me.
We even ended up purchasing a new top mattress over the weekend. We can not wait to try it out! We have to wait until the walls and furniture are done before we can move back into our bedroom. At least we are airing it out right now. It is an all-foam mattress, and it has a smell that needs to off-gas for a bit.
The Wallpaper Winner
All my samples arrived this week, thankfully! It is like Christmas morning opening up the sample packages! And the wallpaper selection is not my first or second choice. For this reason, it is always why you want to take the time and money to order samples. It is too difficult to select them on a computer screen only.
I thought the black and white cork wallpaper was going to be the winner. I honestly did love the sample. But Craig was worried that it would make him dizzy every time he came into the bedroom, just a bit dramatic ;)! Everyone except my mom, who was with me on the cork, liked the black marble wallpaper.
I was going to go with the black marble until I put it with the flooring, and the color tones were too cool. Luckily I had ordered a sample of the neutral version of the paper also. With all the cream accents, this is a better choice.
Wall Paint Color
With the wallpaper chosen, I was able to select the paint color for the rest of the room. I decided on Sherwin-Williams Iron Ore! I am going dark and bold with the rest of the walls and part of the ceiling, and I can not wait to start painting to see the transformation!
The reactions that I am getting from family and friends when I tell them I am going to paint the walls dark is straight-up horror! They can not imagine it and think that I have completely lost it. No worries here, I will turn them into believers by the end of the project!
It’s Coming Together
A lot of final decisions and online ordering has taken place this week. Curtains, ceiling fan, bedding, wallpaper, closet door, door hardware, and vinyl fabric are all on order!
Coming Up Next Week
Crown molding is going up tomorrow, and then it is painting, painting, and more painting for me this upcoming week. I can not wait for the changes to come to life!

great palette and marble is such a classic choice. you will love it for years to come. Love that you are using york wallcoverings as well. I just installed their paper in the home office / guest bedroom and I couldn’t be happier with the result!
Looking forward to seeing your room coming together in the next three weeks!

Thanks, Tim! Glad to hear that York Wallcoverings is a good brand. It is going up on Monday, and I can’t wait!
