Are you looking for an organization project that will only take you a couple of hours to complete? Then look no further than your sink base cabinet. Why do these cabinets become a hot mess so quickly? I was at the point where I couldn’t take it anymore; it was time for a refresh.

BEFORE
The cabinet under the sink was getting a little out of control. A tower of hand towels, dishcloths, and cleaning supplies. It wasn’t working. I created a list of items that I stored under the sink and started browsing for ideas to solve my disorganized mess.
I added the measurements to the image I took with my phone with an app called My Measures. I love using this app because when I am out at a store, I what my measurements are and have a photo reference of the space as well.
AFTER
This is a night and day difference.
I started with protecting the bottom of the cabinet. The sink base is the number one cabinet that will be damaged due to water.
Hafele makes a cabinet protector mat made of plastic that you cut to fit to protect the bottom of the cabinet. This mat works great anywhere there is a sink. Quick installation and wipes clean.
DISHTOWELS AND DISHCLOTHS STORAGE
I knew I wanted to create two-tiers to store the dishtowels and dishcloths. The only place that was clear of the pipes was a 10.5″ wide area. Luckily I found the Like-it Modular Tall Medium Bins from the Container Store. I could stack two in the space, and they opened from the front.
When I emptied everything out of the cabinet, I went through and purged most of the towels. Making it a perfect time to start with new kitchen towels. I love the dishtowels from Williams Sonoma. For dishcloths, I picked up gray microfiber cloths from Home Goods. I ended up only needing one shelf for all the towels.
Yes, the towels have to be folded a particular way. I blame it on working at Pottery Barn where I learn the technique; it does make everything look in order. Let me know in the comments below if you would like me to do a post on the method in the future.
DISHWASHER TABS
For the dishwasher tabs, I put them into an OXO 2.4 quart POP Container. Looks a lot better than the plastic tub that they come in. Plus the POP Container seals which keeps the dishwasher tabs fresh.
CLEANING SUPPLIES
I keep only the cleaning supplies for the kitchen under the sink. The rest of the cleaning supplies are stored in the hallway closet.
I reused acrylic baskets that were already under the sink to hold the cleaning supplies.
I have a small obsession with products from The Laundress. The black and white packaging looks great, and the products work even better. My favorite product is the Scented Vinegar, who knew vinegar could smell good. I put a small amount of the Scented Vinegar in a dish in the kitchen to deodorize the room. And a little splash in a bucket of hot water cleans my laminate floors.
FIRE EXTINGUISHER AND GARBAGE BAGS
The fire extinguisher for the kitchen is stored under the sink for quick access. We make sure to write the date purchased on the extinguisher to know when we need to have it checked or replaced.
I used a mDesign Organizer Bin to store the kitchen garbage bags. We purchase garbage bags in bulk at Costco which comes with two rolls. Both rolls can be stored in the bin, back to back.
