Welcome back to Week 2 of the Spring 2020 One Room Challenge, where I am giving the guest bedroom an update! In case you missed my post last week, you can catch up here. This week has been all about shopping. Using my inspiration mood board as the starting point, I have been busy placing orders and figuring out what I still have left to find.
Design Process for Bedrooms
I want to take a step back and walk you through my design process for bedrooms. For a bedroom, the first thing I do is browse duvet covers. The reason for this is that it is harder to find bedding to match a paint color versus finding a paint color to match the bedding. Since I want to keep this refresh on a lower cost level, I started my search by looking at clearance bedding from my favorite online stores.
Inspiration
While browsing clearance bedding at Pottery Barn, I came across this bedding collection and knew instantly that this was my jumping-off point for the guest bedroom. The thing about an inspirational image is you don’t want to copy it, but instead use it to inspire you to create your version of it.
Bedding Selections
I found this solid navy duvet cover on clearance from Pottery Barn Teen. It is the Simply Smocked Duvet Cover in Indigo; luckily, I ordered it right away because the queen size has already sold out. The duvet cover has arrived already, and the color is more of a gray-blue in person, which changed my wall paint color to Sherwin Williams Naval now.
I am still searching for sheets, a bed skirt, pillow shams, and a blanket for the bedding.
It’s Starting to Come Together
Here is a photo of all the things I have pulled together so far for the guest bedroom. You can see in the picture I found a basket! I honestly thought it would be impossible to find the perfect basket to create a DIY basket light fixture, but lady luck was on my side! I can’t wait to see how it turns out.
Coming Up Next Week
The plan for the long weekend will be all about the walls. Now that I have the paint colors finalized I will start the process of faux painting the walls to look like denim. I can’t wait to see the room start to take shape!
