Organizing Charging Cabinets and Junk Drawer Clean Up

While cleaning out our junk drawer, I ended up finally creating a system to organize and control all the charging cables in our house.  Here is how I cleaned up the junk drawer and my solution for all the charging cables.

Junk drawers seem to be one of those evil must-haves in a home.  There is just stuff that doesn’t have a home that needs to go somewhere.  And everyone’s junk drawer will be different.

Our junk drawer has been getting out of control lately.  Currently, our junk drawer houses electronic cables, backup battery chargers, notepads, additional garage openers, and a couple of easy-access office supplies.  It was time to do a cleanup.

• Madesmart Interlocking 8 Bin Pack – New drawer organizers that fit the drawer better.
• ArtBin Super Satchel Double Deep with Removable Dividers – This bin will work great if you have a large cable collection.  The dividers are movable to create different sized compartments.  I originally purchased this for my cables but found it too big for my needs.  I will be using the container in other areas of the house.
• PTD600 PC Connectible Label Maker – New label maker I just purchased.
• 4 Pack White on Clear Laminated Label Tape
• Anycolor 5 Pack 1/2 Inch Black on Clear Laminated Label Tape

CLEANING UP THE CABLE MESS

IT WAS FINALLY TIME THAT I PURCHASED A LABEL MAKER

I finally purchased my first label maker.  Can you believe an organizing nerd like me never owned a label maker before?  To tell you the truth I hate label makers.  I don’t like the white stickers, and they typically have a limited font selection.  I have always preferred to create my labels on the computer and printing them onto sticker labels.

Over the past few years, I have noticed that I don’t take the time to pull out the computer and the printer to print a couple of labels now and then.  So I started researching label makers to see if they have improved and I could find an option that would work for my needs.

I did find one that I can hook up to my computer and will print any font I have downloaded onto the computer.  It was a pricey model for a label maker, but I wanted font options, so I went for it.

I tested out my new label maker to label the disaster pile of cables.  I printed out labels for the cables onto clear tape with white letters and wrapped the label around on the connection end of the cable.

We tend to bring our charging cables everywhere we go.  Sometimes we leave it at different places or can’t remember if that was our cable or not.  I wanted to eliminate this problem.  Having labels on the cables will let me know that they are my cables, who else is going to label their cables in my family ;).

WHERE TO STORE THE EXTRA CORDS

I purchased some better fitting drawer organizers to contain the rest of the items left in the junk drawer after eliminating all the cables.  The difference is night and day!

Now when new charging cables come into the house, I can label it with the type of cable plus for what device.
